Like no parent wants to experience, Ms. Christy watched her son, Holden, come home from school feeling defeated after being bullied by his peers. The outgoing, confident boy she knew began to lose belief in himself, and she knew he needed more than encouragement. He needed an environment that would help him rebuild his confidence from the inside out.
While searching for solutions, Christy discovered Madrid Jiu Jitsu online and reached out to Professor Daniel Madrid to discuss Holden's situation and what they hoped to accomplish. After their conversation, it was clear they shared the same goal: helping Holden become more confident, more disciplined, and better prepared to handle adversity with composure and respect. Holden began with the introductory program and quickly committed to both group classes and private lessons.
Week after week, Holden embraced every challenge placed in front of him. Through consistent training, individualized instruction, and the support of his teammates, his confidence steadily returned. As his technical abilities improved, so did his self-belief. The discouraged boy who first walked through the academy doors was replaced by a young man who stood taller, smiled more often, and willingly encouraged those around him.
Today, Holden has become one of the student leaders at Madrid Jiu Jitsu. He welcomes new students, sets the standard through his work ethic, and has grown into the kind of teammate younger students naturally look up to. His journey serves as a reminder that Jiu Jitsu isn't simply about learning how to defend yourself. It's about discovering the confidence, resilience, and character that have been there all along.
Terrick and Anna relocated their family from South Africa to the United States several years ago. As they adapted to a new country and culture, they wanted to help Connor build confidence, improve behavior, and develop respect for himself and others.
Connor started with a free trial. After seeing the positive environment and early growth in their son, Terrick stepped onto the mats as well. What began as support for Connor became a shared passion between father and son.
Together they devoted themselves to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, training side by side, encouraging one another, and growing together through every challenge.
Connor continues to grow in confidence, discipline, and respect while Terrick has built an even stronger relationship with his son. As Professor Daniel Madrid says, "Watching those two train together, laugh together, they're bonding in a way that most parents dream of achieving with their children."
